Top 11 Travel Tips You’ve Never Heard Before
As a global nomad, I’m on the go A LOT - no really, multiple times a year, across multiple countries and continents and oceans. Over the years, I’ve learned some tricks to keep me adventuring with ease.

My Top 11 Travel Tips….
Always pack an apple. I’ve run for one too many trains in my life, and when I haven’t had time to stop, an apple has been my saving grace to quench both my thirst and hunger. It’s a good idea to pack some other snacks, too.
Skip paid toilets and go in a fancy hotel. This one is a bit tricky, but one of the best things about traveling and checking-out all the fabulous places to stay. Go into a lobby, take a browse around, ask some questions, and the friendly staff (hopefully!) will let you use the toilet. This works in places like Europe where many toilets require payment!
Maximize!!! When traveling by air or plane, plan a layover, which gives you the ability to see more on the same dime. I’ve seen so many fun cities across Europe en route to other cities, just by planning a long enough “layover” to explore a bit.
Always have water with you. Sometimes the apple just doesn’t do the trick, so make sure to have water in a lovely reusable water bottle like my favorite one - the Klean Kanteen Classic or this easy-to-pack, foldable water bottle - the Nomader Collapsible Water Bottle. Lots of places have refilling stations for the thirsty traveler.
A smile goes a long way. Smile at locals even if you can’t speak the language; it might inspire them to help you out if you’re lost or need assistance. (Even though you might be quickly pegged as an American… if you are one!)
Dress in layers for changing climates. It’s always good to dress in layers because weather can quickly change. One of my favorite travel items ever is a wrap scarf because it can serve as a sarong, an extra layer for sleeping, a scarf, a lightweight towel, and even as a skirt if I needed it to be one!
Take a travel hand sanitizer everywhere you go. When traveling, your immunity usually takes a hit, so it’s a good idea to have some extra help. I like to attach a Purell travel hand sanitizer to my purse or bag for easy access, especially after riding on public transportation.
Walk when/where you can. Walking not only saves money, but it’s a healthy way both physically and mentally to experience a place. I love meandering through streets on the lookout for little treasures I would’ve missed if I had been flying by on a train or bus.
Stay in one spot and do lots of day trips. While traveling, it’s nice to have a “home away from home.” If you’re wanting to explore a certain area or country, it’s great to have that home base and do small day-trips from there.
Prioritize what you want to do most and plan around that. Be intentional in making space for what you really want to see (book tickets, plan excursions, make dinner reservations), but leave room for the unknown as well. I’m a huge fan of exploring and stumbling into places that guidebooks and travel experts have yet to find (or at least written about), and in order to do that, you have to prioritize and then leave the rest for adventuring into the unknown.
GO WITH GOD because He goes with you! This is my favorite thing; because I travel alone often, it’s also the most important. Many people ask me how I can travel so confidently to new places and new countries on my own - this is the answer. I’m never alone. God promises He’s always with me (and you), so I always have a travel companion for my adventure.
The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. ~ Deuteronomy 31:8
And well, He is the Greatest Adventure of all.
